Muhammad Chowdhury

Muhammad Chowdhury, an NYPD officer, is in critical condition after being violently attacked during his morning jog in the Bronx. The attack, which occurred on August 23, involved multiple blows to his head before the assailants stole his belongings. Chowdhury was found lying on the sidewalk bleeding from his ear and was rushed to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with a fractured skull and brain bleeding.

Despite the severity of the incident, there has been limited coverage of the attack in mainstream media. Chowdhury's nephew, Jamil Ahmed, shared that his uncle is now off the respirator and able to communicate. He described Chowdhury as a kind and generous person who has motivated and inspired many to join the NYPD. Ahmed emphasized the importance of capturing the attackers and holding them accountable for their actions.

According to police reports, Chowdhury's attackers are believed to be part of a crew that has robbed multiple individuals in recent days. Authorities are seeking public assistance in identifying the suspects, who often approach victims and forcibly take their belongings, with a black Honda Sedan being the common vehicle used in these incidents.

Chowdhury's wife, Nadira Sherin, expressed her disappointment with how her husband's case has been handled. She called for the perpetrators to be detained for a longer period, stating that releasing them on the same day of arrest is not justice. During visits from Mayor Eric Adams and Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark, she urged them to take the incident seriously and emphasized her husband's dedication to serving the city.

As Chowdhury's condition continues to be monitored, his wife hopes that he will not require surgery and can return home soon. The incident underscores the need for attention to racial attacks and the importance of ensuring justice for victims who serve their communities.
